DWI of head and neck cancer the effect of b values on ADC measurements

چکیده
Introduction: Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) has recently been considered a potential tool for the investigation of head and neck cancer. This technique has been used both for the characterization of tumors and the monitoring of their treatment response after radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Application of this technique relies on the measurement of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) which is calculated from the DWI dataset. However, there is no generally agreed DWI protocol, including no agreement on the magnitude and number of bvalues which should be used to obtain the ADC map. Whether differences in the magnitude and number of b-values have an effect on the ADC measurement is still unclear. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of b-values on ADC measurement of cancer in a group of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Diffusion-weighted MR imaging in head and neck cancer: comparison between half-fourier acquired single-shot turbo spin-echo and EPI techniques.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Several studies have reported on the clinical utility of DWI in head and neck cancer, but none of these studies compared HASTE with EPI-DWI in patients with head and neck cancer. The aim of our study was to compare detection and delineation of primary tumors and lymph nodes by using HASTE and EPI-DWI techniques in patients with HNSCC. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twelve patien...
متن کاملAssessment of diagnostic value of DWI technique in the evaluation of liver fibrosis
Introduction: The liver fibrosis is caused by extracellular accumulation of cluster, glycos amino glycans and proteoglycans, which this extracellular accumulation may limit the penetration and molecular movement of water in the tissue, so the Diffusion weighted imaging(DWI) technique is due to the sensitivity to the movement and release of water molecules Can show this restrict...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE DWI is typically performed with EPI sequences in single-center studies. The purpose of this study was to determine the reproducibility of ADC values in the head and neck region in healthy subjects. In addition, the reproducibility of ADC values in different tissues was assessed to identify the most suitable reference tissue. MATERIALS AND METHODS We prospectively studie...
متن کاملThe Diagnostic Value of Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis in Head and Neck Squamous Carcinoma by Using Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography Perfusion
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) with computed tomography perfusion (CTP) for preoperative detection of metastases to lymph nodes (LNs) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). METHODS Between May 2010 and April 2012, 30 patients with head and neck SCC underwent preoperative DWI and CTP. Two radiologists measured apparent ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE High b-value DWI has been expected to have an additional diagnostic role and demonstrated some promising results in head and neck cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of DWI at a high b-value (b=2000 s/mm(2)) compared with a standard b-value (b=1000 s/mm(2)) and the ratio of ADC values of high and standard b-values for their ability to ...
